Ready For Bed Stories: Rollercoaster Snapshot


Sam beamed from ear to ear. For the first time ever he'd been tall enough to ride the ‘Rocky Rollercoaster Ride' at the summer fair. All these years he's stood by and watched his big brother go around and around, up and down. Now it was his turn and he couldn't wait.

Standing in the queue next to his Dad, Sam tried with all his might to squash his nerves. Although he was excited, the funny feeling in his tummy was getting stronger the nearer he reached the top of the stairs. On the landing, Sam could see a man taking down people's names on a white sheet of paper.

'What's he doing Dad?' he asked reaching up on his tip toes to get a clearer view.

'He's the photographer kiddo. He sits up high in the trees above the rollercoaster to take pictures of us all with our silly scared faces! Shall we get one done?’

Sam smiled and nodded. 'What a great way to remember this!' he thought.

A few moments later Sam was buckled in and ready to go.

Up and down, back to front and inside out the Rocky Rollercoaster Ride went and Sam loved every moment! He laughed to himself as he looked down at his mum waiting for them with his little sister. After one final fantastic loop, the ride came to an end. Sam unlocked himself and with shaky legs went to meet the rest of his family.

'How was it boys?' asked his mum.

'It was the best!' answered Sam jumping up and down.

'Sure was kiddo' said his Dad ruffling his son's hair. 'Come on, let's pick up our photo and see how scared we looked.'

'How scared YOU looked you mean Dad' said Sam as he ran off towards the photographer.

As they held the envelope with their picture inside they looked around at the other people with their photos. They all seemed to be laughing so much they were bent in two!

Sam eagerly tore open the packet and quickly pulled out the picture. Instantly he laughed at the crazy expression he and his Dad had on their faces – they almost looked like plastic! Then he noticed what was making everyone else laugh.

Riding alongside them all on the rollercoaster was...
