Ready For Bed Stories: The Magical Shoelaces

Zoë had had a long day. It was the week before Christmas and she'd been dragged into every shop on Maple St, by her Mum. The moon was almost out and the store lights shone brightly into Zoë's tired eyes as they started closing down for the evening. Holding on to her Mum's hand they crossed over the road towards their car which was almost buried in snow. 'Quickly Zoë before it gets much heavier!' Rubbing her mitten covered hands Zoë looked up at the tiny white flakes and noticed out of the corner of her eye a store at the end of the street whose lights were still on. Carefully he slowly raised the lid to reveal the two twinkles upon the velvet pillow.

'These, are not simply pieces of string young lady, but shoelaces!' Zoë was very confused as she didn't know anyone who kept their shoelaces in boxes!

'They're magical shoelaces,' the old man said, reading her thoughts as he held them in his hand. Zoë eagerly looked up at her mum and she got the nod of OK she was hoping for.

Sitting down on a nearby stool Zoë and her mum laced up her pink trainers and noticed that in tiny writing each one had an instruction scribbled along the top.

'PULL ME' said the lace on her left foot. So with the help of all the butterflies in her stomach, Zoë bent down to the floor and gave the lace an almighty tug.

With an enormous flash Zoë was...
